EARLY LIFE

Michael Scott Fields was born in Dearborn, Michigan on January 21st, 1978, son of Scott and Donna Fields.

He lived with his two sisters Sara and Angie.

His father, Scott Cleveland Fields, is an accomplished author of 16 novels, most notably The Mansfield Killings (2012) and was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in 1966.

In his youth, Fields wrote several stories on his notepad all the way up until high school where he started writing stories to entertain his classmates. Unfortunately two of them were deemed inappropriate which caused a suspension and nearly expelled in school. Still, his teachers praised his work and he still kept writing after graduating high school.

Many of Michael's books come from past experiences. When he was elementary school, he had a hearing problem. The teachers in the school confused this with mental issues and assigned him to special classes. They told his parents not to expect him to grow up to be anything. By the second grade, he had surgery and the problem was fixed. As he got older, the only thing he really wanted was to tell stories. Throughout his life, he always just wanted to entertain the world to whatever was on his mind.

Some of his influences in his life include the mean Mrs. Culver in Spirits of the Darkness. He had similar experiences in Elementary School when this particular school secretary would always harass him and send him to the office. Other influences in Spirits of the Darkness include Appalachian Deep which consists of a giant turtle with an archaic city on its back. This was thought up when he was a small child when he became attached to his pet turtle and imagined the lining on his shell to be like another world. His main character, Sinclair Housen, finds a weapon called a cetra that protrudes blades at both ends of the hilt and can create portals to the world of the dead. This and the character of Harlem (a guardian angel in that world) to be developed as a small child.

Of the many stories he wrote, one was titled The Armageddon Season, debuting in a Philadelphia magazine called Short Stories and Poetry Press Forum. The story centered around a group of boys trying to make it home during a violent winter storm as they battle bullies along the way.

CAREER

In 2013, Fields managed to get his first book published by Solstice Publishing Company entitled Spirits of the Darkness and its sequels under the guise of The Syn Saga with Ghost of the Medallion, Soul of the Serpent and Guardians of the Nether. They also published his science-fiction adventure story Hostile World in 2017. Another publishing company, Sarah Books Publishing, released Corporate Hordes and The Blackwood Conspiracy.

Fields has directed 4 feature films, the first titled The Roommates (2004), spawning 3 sequels: The Roommates Holiday Special, Loser’s Anonymous, and Kindness for Weakness, all available on YouTube.

Mike collaborated with actors Jeremy Francois as Tyler Moore in all 4 films. His friend Heather helped produce their first two films.

The premiere for Mike's first film The Roommates almost didn't happen. In early 2002, they had to acquire their own projector, and they snagged it at the last minute.

Mike's director of photography Jason Hart was driving them anxiously to get to the theater in time. Upon initial arrival, there was nobody there. While in the dressing room getting ready, Mike and his room were informed that the employees were having technical difficulties with sound.

Then, Mike didn't have enough money for a limo driver, but his friend Al covered it gracefully.

It was a 5-minute ride and an announcer summoned Mike and his crew out of the limo, this time with a crowd there.

The film sold out and received a standing ovation.

Mike was a big fan of the Star Wars Holiday Special and would watch it annually. So he thought it would be fun to make a Roommates Christmas Special.

While shooting a scene for the film at a popular Christmas location in Michigan called Bronners, the employees became skeptical of the event and ransacked the production. Mike and company were forced to give up the footage, as the company mistakenly assumed they were shooting a pornography.

Mike ultimately pans the final result, The Roommates Holiday Special, clocking in at just over 45 minutes. He says the film lacks much of a plot but he just wanted to make something that he could finish.

Mike's third film Loser's Anonymous took 8 months to shoot in 2007. Mike dealt with many issues during production, such as actors quitting, coercing them back, hiring a camera man who would often show up hours late and bogart the footage, a crew member who even stole Mike's identity, etc.

You can check out his YouTube channel MFields2178 where he has created several cartoon & live action shows, including Super Lameian Bros., Count Vodkula, Woody Woodpecky, and Pat and the Dee.

In the mid to late 2000's, Mike got the idea for a film called Sacrificial Moon, after his mother Donna suggested he join the Peace Corps. Mike's love for Final Fantasy 8 and Metal Gear Solid influenced the story, and a script was written.

Mike went as far as having a coworker named Karl draw some storyboard designs for the film. 3 promo videos were released to YouTube, but the film was never made.

Around 2009 Mike went on to write a 4th installment in his Roommates series. It would be titled Holiday Failure. The script was completed and several scenes were shot. But Mike struggled to get the crew support he needed and fell ill for quite some time. The film was ultimately cancelled, but all 5-6 scenes shot are available on his YouTube channel.

There were other scripts written for the series such as Homeless Inn and The Loser's Anonymous Halloween Special, but both scripts have since been lost.

Mike's focus shifted to writing for the next decade. In 2018, he independently published a book entitled Dating 101, a short story about fictional character Tyler Moore.

In 2013, Fields makes a cameo in one of his nephew's first big YouTube videos, Slenderman Parody, which garnered over 20,000 views. Fields' character is comedically hunted by Slenderman, with pig squeals heard in the background.

Together, they created top 10 list videos and posted them to Bryan's channel, BryanisJustinsaneTV.

In late 2016 and early 2017, Mike and his nephew Bryan Gibbs, a film student at Wayne State University at the time, began co-writing a screenplay. They would sit at coffee shops and hookah bars and develop it. Ultimately, they wrote a story that took place in the world of The Roommates, and for the summer of 2017, Kindness for Weakness went into production.

On August 17th, 2018, Fields celebrated the premiere of his 4th film Kindness for Weakness at the Emagine theater in Canton, Michigan.

Fields spent most of 2019 downriver in Michigan with nephew and friends. There, he released 69 Bryan Sucks Songs and starred in a YouTube series called Let's Talk Franchises, where Fields would give his take on popular series' such as Star Wars or Paranormal Activity.

By Fall 2019, Fields moved to Alcoy, Spain to live with his longterm girlfriend Francisca. The 4th book in his series The Syn Saga, Guardians of the Nether, was released December 5, 2019.

Fields has said that he plans to write exactly 10 books and retire, just like Quentin Tarantino plans to do with directing films.

In 2020, while developing other written projects, Fields set out to accomplish a childhood dream: his own arcade room, titled The UberGeek Arcade. It is now one of the most immaculate arcade rooms in Michigan, located in a basement in Redford.

From 2018-2021, Fields shot a vlog-like documentary called Lost in Spain, which has remained unreleased.

In 2023, in the midst of a variety of health issues, Fields wrote the 5th and final book of the Syn Saga series entitled Syn Saga: The Last Spiraquist. His 9th book was made available on paperback and E-book through Amazon on June 17th, 2023.

Fields released his first children's book on April 19, 2024 called Marcus and Malak, about a wizard and a witch in a town called Wokenfield, battling citizens who are under a mind virus.

On July 4, 2025, Fields' first documentary was released titled Lost in Spain. A feature film about his time living in Spain with an ex-girlfriend. It was filmed over the span of 2019-2021 and edited by nephew Bryan Gibbs.

On November 23, 2025, a 4-part docuseries was released on YouTube called Mike Fields: The Roommates Retrospective, directed by Mike's nephew Bryan Gibbs. He tracked down some of the cast and crew and interviewed them on their experience and what they are up to now.

In response, Fields wrote a sequel to Bryan Gibbs' 2023 feature film The Social Worker, appropriately titled The Social Worker 2, where he follows the main character Benjamin Anderson on a new journey.

On December 29, 2025, Fields released a new illustrated Christmas book called Marcus and Malak in: Christmas or Die!!! available on Amazon.

January 12, 2026, Mike went on to release an illustrated book that was 30 years in the making, titled The David & The Insignificant One. As a kid, Mike and his friend David created a comic strip together. This is now the full version, available on Amazon here.

On June 7, 2026, Mike Fields released a new screenplay in the Roommates universe titled Demented Parasites. He describes it as: A disowned son struggles to give his father with dementia a good end of life, despite the barriers, like his wife. The character Tyler Moore gets one last story in the Roommates universe.

Throughout the summer of 2026, Fields began drawing comic strips, such as Super Shayne 64 and 2 Cats in a Dungeon. You can read them for free here.

Mike's favorite film of all time is Raiders of the Lost Ark.

His favorite video game of all time is Castlevania IV.

Fields has written hundreds of video game and film reviews.
